Owner of Hesse Fence & Deck, Greg Hesse, believes that a lot of what makes the company stand out has to do with the fact that we do a lot of things that other companies will not try.
Our work shows off our creative side which allows us to see many more possibilities than other fencing and deck companies. Greg sees the connection between his profession building fences and decks, and his passion for music. There is a lot of improvisation involved in what we do.
After watching his father run a sporting goods store, Greg realized he’d do better as an entrepreneur than working for someone else.
Greg believes he’s an “artsy-fartsy kind of guy” and he plays guitar in a band called Timbucktoo. Our style can include anything from a double-arched gate with a custom iron insert and gothic hardware to go in a residential customer’s backyard to something like a fence around the baseball field at Kapaun Mount Carmel with the fence looking completely different on each side.
Over the years we have worked more with custom design than we ever thought we would. The company began 30 years ago (an additional 2 years under the name Wood Fences Unlimited).
Greg’s experience came mainly from building condos in the mountains in Colorado and working for his uncle’s hurricane fence company in Denver. He learned a lot about carpentry by working alongside many talented carpenters. Hesse prefers to work with cedar which he imports from Idaho and Washington and likes to build decks with redwood.
There are usually about eight people working for Hesse Fence & Deck. This includes longtime crew leaders Mark Elliott and Derek DeWerff.
